For part (but not all) of my set, I am looking for:
-Somebody who can play the guitar to a reasonable standard;
-People who might be willing to sing backup vocals/bang tambourines/that kind of thing.

You'll need to be confident playing and singing with others, and you'll need to be able to learn quickly, probably.

Let me know if you're interested.

I think my sense of rhythm might be up to my banging a tambourine or a drum for you ;) I don't think you necessarily want my voice though :)

Well, we can always spend some time together and see. I'm really looking for an impromptu band, so if you feel up to coming along, feel free. :)

Hm. I'd offer, except that I'm unlikely to be able to make it to SF, but I can let you know if that changes. If you ever need a spare pair of hands in London... (unlikely, I know)

It's kind of for a one-time thing. I am not performing actively enough to engage the services of a real musician, like you. :)

Me, me, pick me! Flutes or vocals or simple percussion, as you will.

I won't need a flute on the song I'm talking about, but I'd love it if you'd come sing. Simple percussion could also be a plus.

Oh, I'm interested! But I'm too far away, and I SUCK! :-) There with you in spirit, though.

I'll be there. For backing vocals or tabourines or whatever. (I don't play guitar, though. Alas.)

I'm game, Gwen. I think you have some idea of my skill level with the guitar, so you can tell me if it's what you need. I can also sing. (If you want me to sing harmony, I'll definitely want to have mp3s to rehearse with ahead of time.) I can also bang tambourines etc, if needed.

You must tell me about this song "Two Magicians" that you mentioned on [livejournal.com profile] tamnonlinear's poll! Sorry for showing up unannounced. I'm always looking for more good music :)

Two Magicians is a Child ballad, #44 to be precise. It's been recorded by hundreds of artists, and there are two main versions of it. There are two popular divisions of this ballad. One of them has as its protagonist a "coal black smith" and the other is sung more like a duet.

Kind one almost always begins,

The lady sits at her own front door
Straight as a willow wand
When by there came a coal black smith
With his hammer in his hand

"Bide, lady bide,
There's nowhere you can hide
For the lusty smith will be your love
And he will lay your pride."

Kind two almost always begins,

She looked out of the window as white as any milk
And he looked in at the window as black as any silk
Hello, hello, hello, hello, you coal black smith.
You have done me no harm
You never shall have my maidenhead that I have kept so long
I'd rather die a maid
Oh, and then she said and be buried all in my grave
Than to have such a husky dusky musky coal black smith
A maiden I will die.

In both versions, Our Characters proceed to turn into various things, she to get away from him, and he to catch her by becoming some complementary thing.

Make sense?

You can see a list of recordings for this ballad at The Child Ballads Project. (http://thechildballads.com/) Two Magicians is Child #44, so scroll down a bit for it.
