For part (but not all) of my set, I am looking for:
-Somebody who can play the guitar to a reasonable standard;
-People who might be willing to sing backup vocals/bang tambourines/that kind of thing.

You'll need to be confident playing and singing with others, and you'll need to be able to learn quickly, probably.

Let me know if you're interested.

Two Magicians is a Child ballad, #44 to be precise. It's been recorded by hundreds of artists, and there are two main versions of it. There are two popular divisions of this ballad. One of them has as its protagonist a "coal black smith" and the other is sung more like a duet.

Kind one almost always begins,

The lady sits at her own front door
Straight as a willow wand
When by there came a coal black smith
With his hammer in his hand

"Bide, lady bide,
There's nowhere you can hide
For the lusty smith will be your love
And he will lay your pride."

Kind two almost always begins,

She looked out of the window as white as any milk
And he looked in at the window as black as any silk
Hello, hello, hello, hello, you coal black smith.
You have done me no harm
You never shall have my maidenhead that I have kept so long
I'd rather die a maid
Oh, and then she said and be buried all in my grave
Than to have such a husky dusky musky coal black smith
A maiden I will die.

In both versions, Our Characters proceed to turn into various things, she to get away from him, and he to catch her by becoming some complementary thing.

Make sense?

You can see a list of recordings for this ballad at The Child Ballads Project. (http://thechildballads.com/) Two Magicians is Child #44, so scroll down a bit for it.
