kniteracy: You can get this design on a card or a picture to hang! (ld)
Well, I've had my iphone for a month now. And I'm afraid I'm coming to the conclusion that despite the fact my Palm LifeDrive has a beautiful infrared keyboard and a working (and up to date) of MS Office To Go, I'm just not going to be using him enough to justify having both tiny little boxes, and there is somebody out there who would benefit from having a LifeDrive.

Why do I say he's 'pimped'? Squishy (for that is his name) has recently been fitted with a 3.5GB flash drive instead of the postage-stamp hard drive that comes with the LD. He also has a nearly new battery and has been thoroughly inspected and cleaned up by the fellow who installed the flash drive and new battery for me.

Squishy comes with a folding infrared keyboard that's nearly new (it's over a year old but hasn't been used much) in a hand-knitted case. He himself has all necessary cords and cables, a very spiffy hard case, extra stylii, a pen/stylus/mechanical pencil that you will love, and all his original software plus extra stuff from the PDA guy who brought him back to life a few months ago. He has on-board wifi and Bluetooth, a working web browser, can read your email, has an irc client and an instant messenger, and I will include half a ton of software and ebooks on a CD if you want this delightful little guy. I have written most of a novel on him. He is not just a toy, he was nearly a replacement for my WallStreet Powerbook when I first got him.

Also, when you read reviews of the LifeDrive on sites like Brighthand, please take note that most of what bothered people about the LifeDrive was the slow system time, due to the fact that all the LD's memory was tied up in the postage-stamp hard drive and none of it was solid state. My LifeDrive, with its flash drive instead of hard drive, is actually the device everybody hoped it would be when it came out in 2005. Your only potential problem here is that as Palm slowly gets out of the PDA market (they haven't introduced a new PDA since the T/X, and that came out shortly after the LifeDrive), software will stop being developed for it. I have quite a lot of software for this device, which I will include. Again, the most important thing is that Office To Go is up to date and works; you will be able to save a spreadsheet from Squishy and open it up on your computer.

Palm LifeDrives without all these extras are going at between £75 and £85 'buy it now' on ebay. I spent $120US for the upgrade and repair work (his battery was busted, but now he has a new one). I know this is 'old' tech, but the LifeDrive was well ahead of its time. With the flash drive, it is much faster than it used to be and I'm including a keyboard that cost $70US and a ton of software. I think he's probably worth more than £100 with all these extras, but I'll let you be the judge. Do you want him? Get in touch. He's got a big, bright screen, and he'd love a new person to love him as much as I have.
