I'm in a bad mood once again!
My job is very stressful,
My extra work is piling up--
My garden? Is a cesspool.

And so today, I challenge you
To cheer yourselves (and me!)
By getting all your yahoos out
Through dreadful poetry!

Forget the craft, eschew the art
Of careful scans and rhymes.
Just spit it out! Enjoy yourself
Committing culture crimes.

Link to the first Doggerel Day post, back in November

Post some bad poetry today. Rhyme 'til it feels good!

Today, the seventeenth of March,
They call Saint Paddy's Day,
So food is Irish here at work --
Or so at least they say.

It's Irish stew and leeks (they're Welsh!)
And 'taters too of course,
And Guinness chocolate sponge dessert.
I guess it could be worse...

bad scansion, too!

A little girl in a Bumbo seat
Thinks the world is really neat.
She wants to go explore the place
With more than just her little face.
Have patience, child, the day will come
When you can scoot about on your bum.

Shannachie’s frustration contribution faithfully doggerelled

There is no use in spilling tears
About our frustrations
Life does not – and that’s very clear -
Live up to expectations.

And to be blesséd with a brain
Of broad anticipation
Will often mean that we get slain
By our imagination.

I do, I did and look behind
And sometimes there I see
Between reality and mind
The ‘mind-the-gap’ sign stare at me

I know I’m not alone in this
I keep good company
And then I realise with bliss
I would not different be.

I'm feeling overwhelmed at work,
And help is hard to find.
Perhaps I'd feel less a berk,
If I only had a brain.

Oh noes! The zombie workers rise
From office, banks, and trains.
And as they shamble down the street,
They all say: "WE WANT BRAA-A-A-AIIIINS!"

A new week - a new desk!
I can see the sky!
And rain, and grass, and now and then
The magpies wandering by.

When the pain in my back that attacked me last night makes it tight as a badly-stretched drum
I would fain have relief from the grief, so I go for the glow of a pad o'er the bum.

But I'm out of the pads and that adds to the list that insistently wears on my brain
So without more delay I'm away, in the hope that I'll cope and be spared from the rain.

It's Doggerel Day
Hooray! Hooray!
I wish I had
Something to say

You Know, It Could Be Worse....

I'm just back from the dentist and my jaw is very numb
So if I were to speak aloud it surely would sound dumb
Articulating clearly is a challenge at this time
I'm glad I can just type this up and let you READ the rhyme.

My dentist is a gentle sort and listens when I squawk
She stopped her drilling when I indicated we should talk
She gave another set of shots when I said "Pretty Please"
(It takes 3 times the normal dose to put me at my ease)

This make for visit number 6 if I have counted right
2 more to go (or maybe 3) and I'll regain my bite
The money I had set aside to spend this coming year
On fun consumer goods is gone (and next year's too, I fear)

Extraction via surgery meant no ConFlikt was seen
And Sunday ConSonance was lost to pills that had codeine
It seems that age is catching up and making things break down
It isn't just a mighty king that gets to wear a crown

So though your mood is rather low, I'd ask "Are you in pain?"
That tends to take the number one position in my brain
The dull and bleak and boring things get shoved far down my list
(I won't enumerate them all - I think you get the gist.)

It's time to write poems for Gwen,
So pick up your keyboard or pen.
If every good blogger 'll
Write her some doggerel,
Soon she'll be happy again.
