We picked up a copy of Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels the other night for £3. None of us had ever seen it, but everyone says we should see it. Tonight after dinner, we finally sat down to watch it.

What a fun film. Well, as fun as it can really get with a body count that high. But hey, Sting is in it! ;-)

Seriously, if you haven't seen it, you should. I can't believe we waited this long. As London films go, this one and Football Factory are pretty much the cream of the crop. Unless you count Shaun of the Dead. Or, you know, Love, Actually. (And I kinda do.)

There are lots of good films based in London, aren't there?

What's your favourite London film?

Even though _Love Actually_ doesn't really /show/ much of physical London, it is most definitely a London film. Psychologically and emotionally, you're seeing so many different layers of the city that it would be hard not to call it a London film. And as far as romantic comedies go, it's my favorite. (Though _Serendipity_ and _About a Boy_ are up there).

Actually, thinking more on it, even better is To Sir With Love (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Sir_With_Love)

Skewing Your Timeframe

Square of me, I know, but probably My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins (rather older London), Quadrophenia (if you count it as a London pic, given how much of it's set in Brighton), or A Lion in Winter (okay, so extremely older London)

For more recent London, Shaun of the Dead is fun, if a bit on the bloody side for me.

Whoops. Sorry; I forgot Lion in Winter is not set in London; it just has that vibe. Mea culpa

Shooting Fish.

It doesn't get any more London than a pair of loveable small-time con-men.

Time After Time (1979) is still my favorite London-set film, although only the first third is actually set in (Victorian) London; the rest takes place in 1979 San Francisco. And if you want to count TV miniseries, QB VII (based on the Leon Uris bestseller of the same name) is predominantly set in London, specifically the government's Queen's Bench Seven courtroom (hence the title). There's also Oliver! and My Fair Lady and Mary Poppins, and I seem to recall A Clockwork Orange being based at least mostly in London, albeit a postulated future London. Ditto for 1984 (the Sir Richard Burton version from the same year).

Lock stock was good, I liked most of the above though I'm afraid the Disney musicals would be fairly low on my list.

Films I liked a lot that haven't been mentioned yet:
Notting Hill
Shakespeare in Love

Worst London Movie ever:
That thing with John Wayne as a US cop in London where he drives in from the airport past every London landmark, all in the wrong order and most in the wrong direction.

Neverwhere. OK, it was actually a made-for-TV series but it works as a complete film as well.

And V for for Vendetta is another postulated-future-London film. London is so awesome :p
