Is anyone in the UK selling recycled silk yarn? I've bought some at a very good price from China, but I had to buy quite a bit of it to get the wholesale price, and I'm considering selling some of it when I get back to London, because I have way more than I need! For those of us who've talked about getting together in London, I'd be willing to bring it to a meet and show it to folks. I am sure that I can be competitive with or beat retail prices, if anybody in the UK is even selling this stuff.

See nifty photo below!

This photograph is of some recycled silk that I've already knitted up, into earflaps for a hat I'm making. I have not received the actual stock yet (it's arriving this afternoon, yay!)

The yarn comes in hanks of 100 or 200g depending on which kind they sent (we don't know yet), and we have got the higher quality silk, so the fibre should be very soft when knitted. The stuff I have already knitted up feels like a dream, so soft and comfortable.

I don't know if you've followed discussions about recycled silk on other boards, mailing lists, or communities, but the skinny on it is that it's spun fairly tightly and tends to wind up a bit when you're knitting it. I can show you how to work it into a tight centre-pull skein (hand-made, not with a ball-winder) that will be firm enough to work out all the kinks. The centre-pull ball is like the one in the photograph.

Would anyone be interestd? I have a friend in Bristol who's taking a couple of kg off my hands already, but I'm still going to have a lot left over. I know there was a crafter at Camden Lock Market around Christmas last year selling scarves and hats made out of this stuff, so you might have seen it there, as well.

That stuff is *so* pretty.

Pity my knitting is so glacially slow that I don't bother doing it except for the occasional dolls-clothes item.

I could probably be persuaded to take a couple of hanks off your hands once the school term ends.......

I don't knit, but how much would you charge for a pair of socks out of it? My feet are feeling all silky and happy at the thought of it...

*sits and lusts quietly for awhile*

Soooooooooooo pretty.

And I'm not allergic to it! Unlike wool. Which still makes me sad. :( Wool is so pretty and just touching it makes me rash. It's unpleasant. And gets worse if I'm silly enough to actually -wear- it.

Pretty silk. *pets the silk*

Not in the UK but would *love* to get some of the recycled silk yarn. Esp if there's some in greens or purples and minimal orange. Heck, anything in recycled silk w/ minimal orange, would be good.

I could swap you for some really nice Jamiesons...
