Yes, I finished the socks!

Warning: Knitting Pr0n Below!

This morning, I finished up the crenallated socks. Unfortunately, neither picture really shows the crenallations well; look for the edges of the turned-down cuff. I suppose I should have taken a photo with the cuffs up, but they just fit better turned down.

This pattern is from Lucy Neatby's excellent book, Cool Socks, Warm Feet, a book I am having a lot of fun with. One of the best things about the book is that she details lots of finishing techniques for socks in a way that other patterns do not. Most books/patterns just say, "Graft toes," or whatever, and then offer a basic explanation of Kitchener stitch. Not only does she detail grafting in a way that most anybody should be able to understand, she also puts forth an alternate method or two and really talks about weaving in ends and closing holes in socks. There's also a section on how to replace heels.

These socks, as I mentioned in a previous entry, are knitted from the toes up, without a gauge swatch, and fitted as you go. They feel wonderful on my feet.

Ordinarily, socks made from self-patterning yarn like the Opal sock yarn I used for these do not match perfectly, but the colourways make them complementary even if they don't. Through no fault of my own, these near-as-dammit match. Wow!

I *love* my new socks!

Yay and hugs for finished socks!

Ok, that's me having used up my energy and enthusiasm for the day...

But the socks are still cool. I want to see them *pout*

I miss you lot.

OMG I just started my first sweater, and it's on teeny weeny needles. Yowza. Fear my knit-fu, or lack thereof.

They are seriously cool. There's this ritzy looking yarn shop down the street - I keep thinking I should stop in and see what they have and see if there's some silly little thing that I could get to send you with a care package I am SLOOOWLY putting together but what!?? Hmm....

The top is nifty - and better seen in your ever-so-apropos icon! Those look like fun.
