Today's trip to Thread Bear Fiber Arts!
Mar. 31st, 2007 01:02 amTwo years ago, while
filceolaire and I were still in Singapore, I ordered some beautiful wool from Thread Bear Fiber Arts. There are photographs on the linked posts; it was Lorna's Laces in a Mardi Gras colourway dyed especially for that shop. I learned about Thread Bear from the Black Dog Blog, which has been linked here from my journal for awhile.
You know, you order from places (I've only ordered the one thing from them but I love reading about the shop), but it never really registers where such places are-- or at least it doesn't with me. Then, when I was in Vermont, I did a google search on knitting shops in the Lansing, MI area, since I knew we were going to spend some time with MM and GZ along with J's aunt and uncle, before we left the US and flew home to London. Lo! and behold-- Thread Bear Fiber Arts is located in Lansing. So of course I had to go.
Report Below!
GZ and I headed over this afternoon. While I searched for the perfect wool to replace the Camelot Socks that I finished last year and which have been shrunk in the dryer and subsequently given to
ladyat, GZ took many photographs!

But of course what you want to know is what I got, right? I think this will remake those Camelot Socks nicely, thank you very much! I also picked up a Darnit, which I frankly need right now (lots of darning to do).
aunty_marion, this will also mean I can get your darning mushroom back to you as soon as we're back in the UK and I'm awake! ;-)

If you're ever in Lansing, I strongly encourage you to drop by this very worthy shop. They have tons of great stock, an impressive pattern and book nook, complete with couches and comfy chairs, tables to work on right in the shop, what looks to be a really impressive back room, and some of the friendliest and most encouraging shop staff I've ever met. I'll visit at least once more before we head back to London, probably with
folkmew in tow!
The one drawback is that even with a local resident driving, we had trouble finding the shop. It's in a strip mall, and the signage is not all that great. If they had a sign out on the street, they'd probably get more drop-in traffic, not that they need it, I suppose-- the shop was doing a brisk business when we dropped in.
It was a good experience to round out a good day.
