New socks! :-)

"Why not?" I asked in reply.
"Well...they're kind of loud."
Yes, aren't they?
I finished these up tonight, treating myself to some late-night knitting after taking care of some paperwork. I experimented with making these a little bit more snug than previous pairs, and I think I'll like them a lot, but the real test will come tomorrow when I try to wear them with sandals. :-)

aunty_marion and I went to the knit and stitch show at the AllyPally last fall. They were knitted on US0/2mm addi turbo needles according to Priscilla Gibson-Roberts' short-row heel and toe method, and I gave them a 4/2 kp ribbing because I just like 4/2 ribbing on socks. I made them shorter on purpose, as well; these'll be socks for use with birks or clogs and jeans. So far, I like the snugger fit, but everything feels good when you've just knit it.
In other knitting news, our bathroom looks like a sock garden. Today was handwash day, so I washed two out of three pairs of handknit socks I had this morning (the others were a) on my feet; and b) not quiiite finished). I also discovered that the socks I'd already finished forfolkmew and oreouk had fallen into a dusty place, so I washed those too. So on the bathroom clothesline, there are now four pairs of socks, looking all cute and adorable. Maybe tomorrow morning when I'm more awake, I'll hang all six pairs there just for fun and take a photograph of all of them before I finally put those in the post. I got padded envelopes today, so I promise it won't be long now, ladies.
bardling's socks are coming along quite well; the vareigations, though irregular, are coming out in a way that makes them look like lakes in the desert, so I'm calling them 'oasis' socks, which is what I hope they'll be for her as I knit them: a comfortable, warm plush space for tired feet, with a pattern that suggests peaceful waters and lush growth in the middle of the desert.
I think I'll rewrite that knitting-as-magic post I wrote awhile back.
