It didn't even occur to me when I suggested to [livejournal.com profile] bardling that I knit these socks for her that the name of the pattern sort of goes with her own name. So, [livejournal.com profile] bardling, please forgive all the plays on words, and concentrate on the progress of your socks! ;)

Rika's Harika Socks, Cast On and Cuff Rika's Harika Socks, Cast On and Cuff
It's the cuff that makes these socks so fascinating. You cast on a multiple of three stitches, establish an uneven ribbing pattern, then rotate one needle around 360° so that the wool itself wraps around and gives a decorative twist to the edge of the cuff. It was fun to do, but time-consuming.

Here, you get a better idea of what the cuff does. I decided to knit these when I saw the pair Mithranstar had started at I Knit London a couple of weeks ago. She told me about Twist Collective, and I could not resist the pattern. Because it's sized for someone with ordinary girl feet and not sasquatch feet like me, I decided they must be for Rika. :)

Here, the ribbing is complete and I'm about to start the patterned cuff. This sock is made with one skein of solid-colour Regia sock yarn, and one skein of striping Regia sock yarn. The patterned parts are made with the self-striping yarn. In this way, the pattern will appear to change colour all the way down the sock.

The Twist Collective page on this pattern is here.

At this point, I am a little concerned about the ribbing stranding: some of it was knitted on trains yesterday and while waiting for trains yesterday, and I fear it may be too tight. [livejournal.com profile] mokatiki, who has normal girl-sized feet, will be visiting today, so I'll probably check to see if the ribbing itself is too tight over her heel. If it is, we'll rip it out and start again, which is fine by me: I could use a little more practice on that cuff treatment!

[livejournal.com profile] bardling, I know this is not the colour combination we talked about. The striping colour is Regia Kaffe Fasset Landscape 4350, pictured here. The solid is pictured here, in the second colour picture, number 2095, 'mocca'. If you don't like these colours, let me know and I will restart the sock with the brighter stripes and either the brown or the navy blue, your choice. I'm afraid those are the only two solids I could get that I felt would look good with the striping wools.

I'm about four rounds into the patterned cuff now (had to stop last night because I was falling asleep at my knitting!), so I'll pick it up this morning and see how far I can get before groceries are delivered and the day becomes more about housework, organisation and hair dye than knitting. ;)
